Travelling With Your Best Friend: 1 day until Scotland

We are officially 1 day away from leaving on our big Scotland adventure.

This trip has changed a lot since we started planning it, and while as many trips tend to go, it seems like nothing is really working out, we are officially two and a half days away. Once we get there, hopefully all of our worries will fade away.

Our trip has grown. What started as a trip with just me, my best friend and her daughter now includes both of her parents and her son. It’s going to be a little wild, but we’ve got this.

If you know anything about me, you’ll know that Scotland is my favourite place in the entire world. I recently wrote this in my journal about it:

“We are down to single digits. Only [1] more day until we leave for Scotland. It’s my favourite place in the world. For me, I feel like a little part of me lives in Scotland.

So, I’m always not quite whole here. Whenever I go to Scotland, it’s like I’m reunited with the piece of me that’s missing; with an old friend. Going to Scotland feels like I get to be whole again. It feels like home.

Honestly, I feel like a totally different person when I’m there. I feel like I become free, I become full, I become alive. My body wakes up, and my senses tune into the world around me. Magnified.

People say it’s weird to keep going back to one place when there are so many countries in the world to explore. I absolutely want to see them all too. But they just don’t understand the connection I have to this place. My body recognizes it on a cellular level as the place I truly belong.

The place my mind and body feel whole – Feel like me.”

I think many of us have a place like this. A place where we feel like this.

And I’ve already shared this special place with the man I love. In fact, he knew I loved it so much that he actually proposed to me here. It was amazing. The photos are hilarious, but the moment was amazing.

I have travelled with groups before, but not like this.

I have travelled with my band before, but not directly with a large group that I had to stay with the whole time. But there’s something really special about travelling with your bestie… and her entire extended family (lol).

I’ve known her kids most of their lives (her youngest I met when she was 4 months old). She likes to tell me that she and I were actually friends first because her mom (my best friend) tossed her into my arms and then took off to use the bathroom. She claims I fell in love with her before her mom even got back from the washroom… Not untrue. She was the cutest little baby I had ever seen.

My best friend and her family have never been to Scotland (this will be my fourth time), so I can’t wait to get to see the place I love the most through their eyes.

Getting to see them light up at the incredible sights that they’ve only seen in Instagram reels, experiencing the amazing culture for the first time, getting to be curious and amazed.

It will be a beautiful experience.

Also, the best part of the kids’ grandparents coming is that my bestie and I can go and do our own thing sometimes. This is a big trip for their grandparents too, and they’ll be thrilled to get to spend this time with their grandkids. It will be a pretty good win-win.

So, I’m sitting here last-minute packing (oops) and writing you this (double oops) and thinking about all of the amazing adventures I’m about to have with people I love. For me, old adventures and new adventures, and a place I feel at home in.

Hopefully, I’ll do a better job of documenting this trip and keeping up with this blog than I have been in the last year (I still owe you a blog about our Christmas in Mexico trip).

But for now, goodbye friends. I’m jumping on a plane in 25 hours!
